Terms of Use

Who we are

Cove (covebooks.app) is operated by [OPERATOR NAME] ("we", "us"), based in the United Kingdom. You can reach us at hello@covebooks.app. By creating an account or using Cove you agree to these terms.

Your account

Cove is free, and still being built

Cove is currently free and under active development. Features will change, improve, and occasionally break. If we ever add paid features, we'll say clearly what's paid and what isn't before you're asked for anything — and exporting your library will always be free. Tracking your reading is never held hostage.

Your library is yours

Everything you put into Cove — your books, ratings, notes, tags, reading dates and taste-graph placements — belongs to you. You give us permission to store it, back it up, sync it between your devices, and display it back to you. That's the only reason we hold it. We don't sell it, advertise against it, or train anything on it.

If you use the friends feature, the things Cove says it shares — when you start or finish a book (including the rating you gave it), what you're currently reading, and your profile unless you've set it to private — are visible to the friends you have accepted, and only while they remain your friend. Your notes are never shared. The Help & FAQ spells out exactly what a friend can see.

What we ask of you

Don't use Cove to:

If you find a security problem, please tell us privately at hello@covebooks.app before disclosing it publicly — we'll take it seriously and work with you.

Book information

Covers, descriptions, page counts and series details come from public book databases (see thanks & attributions). We tidy this data but can't guarantee it's right — books are messy. If a book's information is wrong, use "Something wrong with this book's info?" on the book's page and we'll fix it. Book covers remain the property of their publishers and are shown for identification, as bookshops and libraries do.

What you can expect from us

We work to keep Cove fast, safe and available, but it's provided "as is" — we can't promise it will always be online or error-free, and you shouldn't rely on it as your only copy of anything irreplaceable. The export button exists so you always have a backup that's entirely in your hands; we'd genuinely encourage using it now and then.

Nothing in these terms limits liability where the law says it can't be limited (for example, liability for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence), and nothing here affects your statutory rights as a consumer. Beyond that, since Cove is free, our liability to you is limited to what the law requires: we aren't liable for indirect losses, lost profits, or data loss you could have prevented with the free export.

Leaving, and being asked to leave

Changes to these terms

If we change these terms we'll update the date above, and for anything significant we'll tell you in the app before it takes effect. If you keep using Cove after a change, that's acceptance; if you don't accept the change, export and delete — no hard feelings.

Law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and disputes belong to the courts there — though if you live elsewhere in the UK you keep the protection of your local consumer law and courts.
